thinking we need to drop the term “mental” in these areas, also there is nothing that I can see to the disease model per say that restricts an MD’s knowledge of chemistry/anatomy this seems to have more to do with the sorts of decision making tree models of diagnosis/treatment that they are taught to be technicians of.
We need to teach MD’s some effective degree of owning up to what they don’t know and to act with the according humility but this would be a major shift in socialization for all of the programs that I know of, so how to orient medical education to a more pragmatist mode?
