I have never understood the sort of virtual exposure theory of education that confuses text related skills (and other classroom focused student habitualizations) with the skills required to interact with other people (not to mention other critters and things) outside of the lecture hall, we need people who don’t just know about, but people who know how, and so we desperately need to get people back into the rough proving grounds of the field.

yes, sadly I realize that this is largely a mutant/minority capacity, one of the epic ironies of our species is that a gutbucket trait/cognitive-bias like feeling-certainty that kept us going even as we were thrown into the world without a niche to call our home is now our (and just about every other non-jellyfish critter’s) undoing, that and our craving for sugar, who needs a death-drive when you can manufacture high-fructose corn syrup…
