The panel will explore the history of sexual freedom as part of anarchist revolutionary practice, providing an alternative history to one focused exclusively on sexual rights. Martha Acklesberg is a leading authority on women and gender in the anarchist movement in Spain during the Civil War. Richard Cleminson is reader in Hispanic Studies at the University of Leeds. He lectures on Spanish history, gender studies and the history of sexuality. He has written about anarchism and homosexuality, the history of “hermaphroditism” and the history of eugenics.
