Northern Cree occupy Manitoba Hydro dam over longstanding grievances

I think this is the only workable approach to resisting crony-capitalists and their governments localized occupations/resistances, jam their signals/flows/gears, shut them down as we can.

Manitoba Hydro occupation 1By Tim Fontaine, APTN National News, Sept 29, 2014
Members of a northern First Nation have begun occupying a hydroelectric dam over longstanding grievances with Manitoba Hydro.

The Jenpeg Generating Station is located 19 kilometres from the Cree community of Cross Lake.

Tommy Monias lives in Cross Lake and is taking part in the occupation. Monias told APTN National News late Sunday that the occupation started Friday and people have been maintaining the camp in shifts, with around 10 people at the site at any given time.

Monias says RCMP are monitoring the situation but the occupiers told them it’s going to be a peaceful protest.

  1. I can’t help but think shutting them down is a brilliant act of corporeal power and incredibly encouraging, especially in this historic juncture, but shouldn’t we also be trying to take-over or dismantle as we see fit?

    • my sense is that we should do what we have the resources to do, by and large I think things will tend to be asymmetrical and not in our favors but over time we may wear them down, just taking away from their efficiency/productivity makes them vulnerable to other market powers so maybe we can use them against each other?

      • Other market powers just step in and take over- capital for capital. I agree with the pragmatism regarding doing what can be done- but confidence and skills are learned. More can be done.

      • well we will see, so far even these modest, if inspiring, efforts are all too rare.
As they keep coming we can keep resisting, see how much slowness/resistance they can absorb.
I’m certainly not opposed to more just haven’t seen it yet.
