there is a lot to appreciate in what Al has to say here (especially how his accounts in the lecture weren’t serving as illustrations of his pet theories but rather echoed experiential-spurs/knots which had ‘boggled’ his mind and into which he had buried himself) but I’m most moved by the little gestures he makes like refusing (apologetically) to address a subject he hasn’t really worked through and taking his time to answer a question even tho the gap made the audience nervous.
