Spectres and Struggles, Michael A Lebowitz

Among other things we seem to be desperately lacking in ways to engage in strong/enduring voluntary associations (apart from friendships and family), ways of holding peers accountable, of solving (even framing) difficult problems and goals, of making sacrifices.
In the place of old-fashioned patriarchies (all too common still in many places/forms I realize) we are only left with variations on neoliberalist consumerism, and without such means of co-operations we are left to our own all too limited devices.
