  1. so I read the Fear Index and it’s a pretty weak/silly book that as far as I can see adds nothing to our understanding of our high-wired times, this kind of blind faith in books to change/open minds was really where my own work started to come away from my tutelage under the late Richard Rorty who while he pointed us off the page and back to on the rough ground, in the midst, research like Rabinow’s anthropology of the contemporary, couldn’t get over the grip that his bibliophilia had on him.
    We shouldn’t beat up on those who show us the way even when they can’t make the leap themselves but be gracious for what they allow us to do.
