I think that the common thread that might bring most of us to this fringe corner of the web is some inkling that “context” matters and so things are more complex than they appear, but as for how to account for this, and particularly for our interests here at S_Z how to find out what factors/aspects need attending to and tinkering with (mangling as Andy Pickering would say) in order to bring about differences that make a difference I’m not sure that there is much common-ground or experimental/empirical results to be found yet, so much work along these lines needs to be done as I see it.
